To give you a brief background, my wife and I currently work as full time Artists in our studios by the beach in beautiful Port Douglas. I’ve spent most of my professional career working in television and print media as an editor, camera operator and graphic designer. Much of this has been based out of the U.K., working, travelling and experiencing art in Europe, the Middle East, the US and Latin America with my amazing wife, Cheryl, an insanely talented professional artist of more than 25 years. She opened my eyes to Antoni Tapes, Ben Nicholson, Cy Twombly, Ralph Steadman and Diego Rivera, the list is endless and the experiences are priceless. I can credit her for encouraging me to take my musings more seriously and stepping out of the shadows.
My paintings can be split two ways.
Tonal Paintings – Abstractions of feel, exploring over simplified palettes.
Pop – Heavy black line images disguised as whimsical. These explore popular culture and issues close to my heart. They take a great deal of planning, I work countless hours in my journal and on an iPad and desktop, simplify iconic images, contextualising, reworking and then compiling into large paintings using acrylic paint, markers and charcoal.
